How ROOK Works

Direct Delivery Coordination
How delivery works

To keep things flexible, delivery is arranged directly between the book lender and the borrower.

  • Chat to Coordinate: Use our messaging system to agree on a convenient meetup point or delivery method.
  • Your Choice: You can choose to meet in person at a public spot or use a local courier service of your choice.
  • Safety First: We recommend meeting in well-lit, public locations for all physical handovers. Read our safety guidelines here.
Book Care, Late Fees & Disputes

We know books are precious, so we have a few friendly ground rules to keep things smooth and fair for everyone:

Late Returns

Books should be returned by the agreed date. Late returns incur a small penalty (shown at checkout) to compensate the lender.

You'll receive reminders before your due date so you never forget to return your book on time.

Damaged Books

If a book is returned with significant damage, the renter may be charged a damage penalty fee. Minor wear is okay — but let's treat each book with love.

Book owners can document the condition of their books before lending, making it easier to identify any new damage upon return.

Lost or Missing Books

If a book isn't returned after several reminders, or is lost:

  • The renter will be required to cover the cost of the book, based on the estimated value.
  • Repeated issues may lead to account suspension.

We understand that accidents happen, and our team will work with you to find a fair resolution.

Reporting an Issue

Having a problem? You can:

  • Send us an Email via info@rookbookskenya.com
  • Briefly describe what happened (e.g., "book not returned," "book came with torn pages")
  • Our team will follow up within 48 hours to help resolve it

We aim to make the dispute resolution process fair and transparent for all parties involved.

Pricing Rules
How to Price Your Book (and Get It Rented!)

Setting the right rental fee helps your book get picked faster, keeps the platform fair, and makes sharing joyful for everyone.

Here's what's included in the final rental price:

  • Your set fee (what you earn)
  • A small ROOK commission (to keep the platform running)
  • A refundable protection fee (returned to the renter upon safe return of your book)
Pricing Guidelines

Our goal is to keep rentals affordable for readers and fair for book owners. Below are suggested rates you can use when setting your prices:

Here are some suggested price ranges to help guide you:
